Technical Information

1
WHY CHOOSE RECYCLED POLYESTER?
By recycling plastic bottles or second-hand textiles to produce our polyester, we have reduced the utilisation of oil-based resources while preserving the quality and performance of the material during your mountain hikes. The navy blue model is made from 100% recycled polyester and the grey model from 25% recycled polyester.
2
Fleece material: Insulation provided by air
The mission of the fleece component is to trap air thanks to the volume created by its texture (and the brushing of the knit). This air acts as a natural insulator, keeping the body warm
3
COMPONENT BREATHABILITY
To assess the breathability of the fabric, the evaporative resistance, RET (test based on the ISO 11092 standard), is measured. The lower the fabric's resistance, the more water vapour generated by physical activity is evaporated, and the higher the fabric's breathability. For example: RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric / 9 < RET < 12 = very breathable fabric / 12 < RET < 20 = breathable fabric / RET > 20 = little or no breathability.
4
Durability of the components
We conduct numerous laboratory tests to validate the highest standards in terms of durability: a resistance test to abrasion and friction to ensure that the fleece does not pill, a colour fastness test to check the behaviour and resistance of the colours and an ageing test to check that repeated washing does not alter the properties of the fabric, its behaviour, its thickness or its appearance.
5
A score for comparing products' environmental impact
A product's environmental impact is calculated over its entire life cycle using various indicators. A score from A to E is produced to help you make a responsible choice. This rating is used to easily identify the products with the best environmental performance. This is done by making a comparison between products of the same family (e.g. backpacks). Decathlon is a voluntary supporter of this environmentally-friendly labelling approach.

Test
To meet your kids’ requirements, Quechua products are tested in the mountains in conditions that you will come across during your hikes. Sarah, our Field Test Engineer, as well as a panel of child testers, test the products throughout their development until they’re offered for sale.

Product test
Our Decathlon Sportslab laboratory, based in Lille, also contributes to the innovation and development of our Quechua products. It brings together 4 themes, each with their own area and technological tools: Body shape (3D analysis in particular) Movement science Thermal comfort (with its four climatic chambers) Behavioural and sensory sciences
