Technical Information

Component waterproofing
This garment has been validated in a shower test under 60 L of water/sqm/hour for 2 hours. This test reproduces the average conditions of a rain shower in the mountains. Components with a 2,000 mm rating can withstand the pressure of a 2,000 mm column of water (which is equivalent to a rain shower lasting 2 hours). Waterproof rating is expressed in Schmerbers (for example: 2,000 Schmerbers).
Component breathability
Component breathability is measured by its thermal evaporative resistance (RET). This is its capacity to let water vapour generated by the body during physical activity escape and therefore avoid water accumulating on the skin. The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric. RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabric RET ≤ 12: breathable fabric RET ≤ 20: little breathability Our product has a 12 RET rating

Durability of the components
Abrasion and friction resistance test: for example, we carry out laboratory tests to check that the fleeces do not pill. Colour fastness test: we check colour fastness to ensure that colours do not bleed when coming into contact with saliva. Ageing test: repeated washing must not alter the fabric's original properties, including its shape, thickness or appearance.
1/ Machine wash (30°C): mild detergent. Wash jackets and trousers inside out. Loosen straps and elastics. 2/ Avoid folding the garment too much in the washing machine: this can damage it. 3/ Do not mix different types of clothing and colours. 4/ Do not use bleach. 5/ Rinse thoroughly followed by a gentle spin cycle. 6/ Dry either on a washing line or in the drier (minimum temperature, minimum duration).

To meet your requirements, Quechua products are tested in the mountains in conditions that you will come across during your hikes. Sarah, our Field Test Engineer, as well as a panel of kid testers, test the products throughout their development until they go to market.

Product test
Our design team is based at the foot of Mont Blanc, in Haute-Savoie (France). All year round, we create and develop products that are attractive, simple and technologically advanced. We then test them ruthlessly in the field, because we believe that the only way to continually improve is to conduct tests in the real-life conditions that you will experience.
