Technical Information

1
WHY OFFER THE SAME MODEL WITH TWO WIDTHS AT THE FRONT OF THE FOOT?
Following an extensive study of trekker's preferences when it comes to boot shape, we decided to design a boot available in 2 different shapes: one "classic" and one "wide". Each individual can choose how much space they have inside the boots and reduce the risk of inflammation and blisters caused by badly fitting boots.
2
MADE IN EUROPE MANUFACTURING : All our Forclaz trekking boots are made in Europe.
These TREK boots are manufactured within the European Union, in Romania, in a factory specialising in the production of trekking boots (GRISPORT) This factory uses exclusively water-based adhesives, without chemical solvents. Most materials are of European origin. MANUFACTURER: https://grisport.it/company/?lang=en Tip: copy and paste the links you find on this page into your favourite browser ,)
3
Eco-design approach
This product has been the subject of an eco-design approach = The interior dyeing of the lining of this boot was carried out using a process called DOPE DYEING -> Dope Dyeing is an effective, innovative dyeing process that reduces the environmental footprint. Yarns are created by adding dyes directly to the polymer melt during the spinning process, while reducing energy, water and waste consumption.
4
WHAT’S THE TYPE OF USE FOR THESE TREKKING BOOTS? WHICH ROUTE
The intended use for this trekking boot is generally low-altitude routes and/or on easy trails Can occasionally be appropriate for certain slightly more technical sections: crossing scree, snowfields, elevation gains
5
ADHESION OF OUR SOLES WITH GRIP
The grip of our soles is certified To benefit from this certification, the boots must pass laboratory tests to assess the grip coefficient on different surfaces (Smooth, Rugged, Dry, Wet). To validate these tests, we got a representative panel of testers to evaluate the quality of their soles in the field, in the mountains, over a distance of 500 km The lug pattern will also give you suitable grip on wet and muddy terrain
6
WHY CHOOSE A LEATHER MODEL? Advantages and drawbacks
Advantages: extremely soft, durable and naturally waterproof: it prevents water running across the boot by repelling and absorbing it. Leather is breathable (natural pores of leather skin), but less so than a synthetic boot in strong heat. To reduce this problem, nubuck leather is used for greater breathability but is also more sensitive to rain. Drawbacks: It needs to be nourished, hydrated and treated to remain waterproof
7
HOW WATERPROOF ARE THESE BOOTS?
This boot has been validated by a waterproofing test at 30,000 repeatable flexes, i.e. 15 km - 6 hours of walking, in water up to the mid-upper, which today guarantees a very good level of waterproofing for your boots. --> Our assessment indicates a LEVEL OF 3/5, giving 6 hours of waterproofing when hiking in the rain. The details of tests carried out to assess the waterproofing of our boots is below, in the features section.
8
HOW TO PROLONG WATERPROOF PROPERTIES is also a question of accessories! and a bit of elbow grease ,)
A waterproof grease is recommended to nourish leather, to stop it drying out (cracking), to MAKE IT WATERPROOF and protect against stains. 1/ TREKKING BOOTS CARE BRUSH https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/trekking-shoe-maintenance-brush/_/R-p-307665?mc=8551990 2 / RE-WATERPROOFING GREASE FOR LEATHER BOOTS https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/grease-for-re-waterproofing-leather-boots/_/R-p-9513?mc=8229704
9
WATERPROOF BOOT OR GAITER? it’s not necessarily one or the other! it provides additional protection
A boot’s waterproofing is often undermined by water getting in from the top of the boot. --> To keep your feet dry for longer, it is advisable to use a waterproof gaiter or mini-gaiter that will prevent water, as well as pebbles, sand, etc., from getting in through the top Model perfectly suited to these boots TREKKING GAITER TREK 500 BLACK / €15 https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/trek-500-trekking-gaiters-black/_/R-p-124466?mc=8347880&c=BLACK

HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR LEATHER BOOTS ? - 6 steps for looking after your leather boots
1/ Take out the laces to avoid getting grease all over them 2/ Brush when dry to remove dust and all the particles stuck to the leather. This is essential so any dirt doesn’t get stuck under a new layer of grease. 3/ Grease the leather with a brush, rub it deep into the seams and gaps 4/ Wipe off surplus grease with a soft cloth. 5/ Gently rub to “shine” 6/ Replace the laces! ,)
11
HOW TO WATERPROOF MY LEATHER BOOTS ? with a waterproofing re-activator
1/ Use a brush and/or sponge to clean the boot and remove any dirt or mud. 2/ Then leave to air dry, away from any heat source. 3/ Finish by using a re-waterproofing spray to keep optimal water-repellency of the upper and extend the life of the boot. Link below for the applicator, also available online https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/100-ml-waterproof-stain-resistant-spray-for-leather-and-textile-walking-shoes/_/R-p-312940?mc=8575571

WHICH SIZE SHOULD I SELECT?
WHICH SIZE SHOULD I SELECT? For hiking, feel free to buy one size larger than your usual size to guarantee excellent comfort on the descent and avoid toes rubbing at the tip of the boot. Tip: keep your toenails short and, before descending, check that your lacing prevents your foot from sliding forwards inside the boot.
13
5 LEVELS OF WATERPROOFING
During the waterproofness test, we test 5 levels of waterproofness: 2,000 flexes (approximately 4 km ,30 minutes of walking) 10,000 flexes (approximately 10 km ,3 hours of walking) 30,000 flexes (approximately 15 km ,6 hours of walking) 50,000 flexes (approximately 20 km ,8 hours of walking) 100,000 flexes (approximately >20 km ,24 hours of walking)
14
WATERPROOFING TEST
Our boots are laboratory tested according to two successive tests Test 1 / We test the efficiency of the membrane only when it is pressured and placed in water, checking the absence of bubbles on the surface, like when you test a punctured inner tube. Test 2 / Thanks to mechanical arms that simulate walking, the assembled boots are half-immersed in water and complete thousands of flexes to check that the inside of the boot remains dry and is therefore waterproof.
