Okayama 400 Karate Uniform

Taekwondo is a so-called "percussive" combat sport. Unlike judo, you do not grab your opponent's uniform (except in self defence). This is why the uniform should be light with a generous cut to enhance freedom of movement.

The size of your child will determine the size of the uniform (from 110 cm to 150 cm). In keeping with tradition, the uniforms are made from cotton and have a natural tendency to shrink a few centimetres during the first 3 washes. This is why we recommend choosing a uniform that is 5 to 10 cm bigger than your child. For example, if your child is 133 cm, chose a 140 cm uniform.

Your height will determine the size of your uniform (from 160 cm to 200 cm). In keeping with tradition, the uniforms are made from cotton and have a natural tendency to shrink a few centimetres during the first 3 washes. This is why we recommend choosing a uniform that is at least 5 cm bigger than your normal size. For example, if you are 174 cm, chose a 180 cm uniform.

A child who is new to taekwondo should choose a 100% cotton, twill fabric uniform (190° gr/sqm) that is both soft and lightweight. A karateka who has been doing karate for 2 years (yellow or orange belt) or who is beginning to compete, should choose a ribbed cloth uniform. Its polyester/cotton composition (240 gr/sqm) results in a good post-shrinkage fit, and dries quickly.

A karate novice should choose a soft and lightweight uniform, that is also durable thanks to its ribbed knit. A karateka who practises competitive kata (imaginary combat without an opponent) should choose a very durable uniform, with a thicker "snappy" fabric.

Karate develops concentration and teaches children to channel their energy. The different karate techniques use all of the body's muscles. Karate improves balance, endurance and coordination. It is recommended that you wear a helmet and mouth guard.
