Technical Information

1
Fleece component: Insulation thanks to air
The fleece component is designed to trap air in the space formed by its texture, this air acts as a natural insulator, keeping the body warm. It is the brushing of the knit that traps the air. This component has been laboratory-tested for a comfort temperature from 7 to 10°C without any additional jacket.
2
Guaranteed life span of 2 years
We test the ageing of our hiking fleeces to guarantee their durability. We guarantee: - the backpack's resistance to abrasion and arm movements in order to delay pilling, which is a feature of this material. - the strength of the seams - the durability of the fleece material after 3 washes (dimensional stability) - colour-fastness after washing, against UV rays or in contact with perspiration.
3
Our environmental approach
- By recycling plastic bottles to produce our polyester, we reduce the use of oil-based resources while keeping the material's breathability in practice. With an understanding of climate issues and finite resources, the objective of the DECATHLON teams is that 100% of our new products are eco-designed by 2021, therefore reducing our environmental impact.
4
DOPE-DYEING
Bulk dyeing or “dope dyeing” incorporates the pigments during the thread manufacture. This technique reduces the environmental impact compared to standard dyeing which takes place once the thread forms a fabric. This requires more water consumption and pollution. This new dyeing process is used for the MH100 black fleece and we are currently working on duplicating this for other colours.
5
A score for comparing the products' environmental impact
The environmental impact of the product is calculated over its entire life cycle and using various indicators. An overall ABCDE score is given to help you easily identify products with the best environmental performance by comparing and contrasting products of the same type (t-shirts, trousers, backpacks, etc.). Decathlon is committed to displaying environmental information about its products.

Test
Our design team is based at the foot of Mont Blanc, in Haute-Savoie (France). All year round, our designers create and develop products that are good, simple, and technologically advanced. These are then ruthlessly tested in the field, as we remain convinced that only through rigorous testing under real life conditions, like the ones you will be using them in, can we continue to provide you the best products.

Product test
We carry out 2 types of thermal testing: - either a test of the material of our fleeces. - or on a thermal dummy in a thermal chamber. We reproduce the temperature, wind (5 km/h) and humidity conditions that you would encounter in the mountains walking at 5 km/h. These tests are used to validate our design choices. So we can adapt our thermal insulation to where you most need it.
